The new DS theatrical version has been given a May 11, 2012 release date by Warner Brothers Studio, which is behind the film along with Johnny Depp's Infinitum/Nihil Productions, GK (Graham King) Productions, and the Dan Curtis Estate.

SG announced the project in July, 2007, and has continued reporting confirmed developments in each SG print issue and in SG Online Updates. Johnny fulfills a childhood dream to portray "Barnabas." His longtime collaborator Tim Burton (also a lifelong DS fan) will direct. Production starts this month, shooting entirely in London's Pinewood Studios and at locations in England.

"Theatre executives" and SG received the following "Release Calendar" announcement 5-13: "Title: Dark Shadows. Distributor: Warner Bros. Release Date: 05/11/12. In Wide Release."

SG reminds fans: "There's always a possibility that a strategic or technical reason could lead to a change of the release date, but (this is) the date currently scheduled." The movie "will be filled with familiar characters from the original DS but also promises to have some new twists, as well as the addition of Johnny's and Tim's unique style."

SG will be kept informed and announce confirmed developments.

CAST: Barnabas - Johnny Depp. Angelique - Eva Green. Victoria - Bella Heathcote. Elizabeth - Michelle Pfeiffer.  Julia - Helena Bonham Carter. Willie - Jackie Earle Haley. Carolyn - Chloe Moretz. David - Gulliver McGrath. Young Barnabas - Thomas McDonnell.

The screenplay is by Seth Graham-Smith from a script by John August. Music composer: Danny Elfman. ((SG previously announced Robert Cobert's original DS Theme or other musical elements may be incorporated into the movie score))  Production Designer: Rick Heinrichs. **** JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT STARS IN "HESHER"

Joe has the title role in HESHER, opened in limited release 5-13. SG #117-#118 has extensive commentaries, reviews, and analyses of the film after it world-premiered at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival.

Co-starring and produced by 2010 Oscar-winner Natalie Portman, it's the story of a father and son, deeply grieving after the recent death of their wife/mother in a car accident. Joe's brash, long-haired heavy-metal character literally moves into their home and becomes the violent catalyst - physically and emotionally - in changing their lives. The slang term "hesher" means a burned-out, delinquent, profane "loser" living on the edge of society. HESHER is rated R for "disturbing violent behavior, sexual content including graphic dialogue, pervasive language, and drug content."

Please share with SG any HESHER articles, reviews, interviews, or publicity material you find. Send all materials to SG's e- or postal- mail addresses below.

**** KATHRYN LEIGH SCOTT - PUBLICATION PARTY FOR NEW NOVEL

A publication party for Kathryn's supernatural thriller novel "Dark Passages" will be held 8-7 at Diesel Bookstore in Santa Monica (Brentwood), CA.

Reflecting Kathryn's (Maggie) own DS ties, it's a story set in the early 1960s about a popular hit TV soap opera. A young woman actress, who's actually a telekinetic vampire raised to resist human blood, joins the series' cast. She finds herself confronted by "her nemesis, a beautiful spell-weaving 300-year-old witch bent on destroying her." The 2 also vie for "the affections of a handsome young mortal with a secret life of his own."

The publication party will be at 3:00 on 8-7 at Diesel - A Bookstore in Brentwood, located in the Brentwood Country Mart, 225 26th St., Santa Monica, CA. 90402. 310-576-9960.

Fans attending the event are welcome to share their photos and reports with SG.
